Hi All

What a great little corner of the Internet this is! I've looked all
through the messages here yesterday and popped over to, reading a lot of the advice given there. Great stuff.

I have only jusy opened my web-site for business (well, OK - 2 days
ago).  Up until then, the URL simply showed a blank page except for
some technical advice that I had stored:

This latter page has a Google ranking of 3!! I have no idea how it got
that, but checking site stats says that the page has been hit quite
heavily over a period of time. But I digress.

My index page has no ranking and I do realize that I will have to work
hard to get that fixed. I'm going to continue reading here and trying
all the things I can see. In the meantime, if anyone would like to take
pity on me, check my site (URL in sig) and offer advice, I'd be very

Thanks all.

I did a Google search for "Help Desk Software" (no quotes) and was
returned 5,690,000 results.

Searching for "Help Desk Software" (with quotes) returned 640,000

And trying "Enterprise Blue Help Desk" (no quotes) returned 134,000

Good luck with your optimisation, you have some serious competition I

Anyway, for what it's worth. Try renaming your image files to your
target key words, rather than say EB.GIF and add alt text to the image
tags, again containing your target key words.

Try also to include a title within <h1></h1> tags containing your
target keywords. Remember you can change how <h1> will (perhaps) be
displayed with your external CSS style sheet, but search engines will
still perceive it as a primary heading!

Now over to the SEO specialists for more in-depth advice - I just run
a web site, I don't claim to be a SEO expert.

Worth noting that the alt text isn't indexed unless it's an image link - the
intended purpose of the alt attribute is to perform the same function that
the image would have performed were it visible.

If you feel that any of the above is incorrect,
inappropriate or offensive in any way,
please ignore it and accept my apologies.
