True, and this is an angle many commercial sites overlook as they
focus instead on "I want to sell this" then find it hard to find
people willing to link voluntarily to thier site (without
requiring/requesting a reciprocal link, that is).
Some commercial sites gradually accumulate voluntary links shared by
others simply by sharing a few pages of free, but informational,
content that is somehow related to their main product/item.
For example: web design sites, not many people will share voluntarily
just share a link a web designer's site. However, that web designer
may share a few informative articles that people *will* link:
bandwidth theft, color charts, etc. Those links help - and the bright
spot on the horizon being they didn't demand reciprocation and you
didn't have to seek them out, they sought some of your content out.
Secret to it is brainstorming then getting creative - focus on the
commercial aspect of the site but don't wear horseblinders at the same
