I've got this site:

When I access the site, it straightly goes to my homepage:

I can see that Google gives the "root" ( a PR of 6, but the homepage
a PR of 2 only.

Can anyone tell me how this can be, it must be the "redirect" function?

What impact does this have on ranking in google?

Presumably, the root is where all your inbound links arrive - you could pass
on some PR by linking from the root to the "home" page.

My preferred solution would be to put your home page at - I
assume that there's some reason for your not doing that because it makes
life complicated the way you have it.

Google doesn't like the redirect that you've used - a serverside redirect is
generally much better.

If you're stuck with the structure that you now have, I'd suggest an
optimised page at with a 10 second redirect that says
welcome, gives a brief intro and then takes the visitor to your "home" page
with a "Click if you're not re-directed" link for the spider and anyone who
has redirect stopped in their browser.. That way your index.html page will
have the benefits of search engine friendly text and the PR boost of the
inbound links.

If you feel that any of the above is incorrect,
inappropriate or offensive in any way,
please ignore it and accept my apologies.

liked your signature :)

well, its a farily significant website, run on a broadvision platform, so changing core elements should be avoided :)

I'll seee if I can do anything about passig PR on from root somehow.
