Cache or Current Version?

Do you think Google's ranking of sites goes by their cache of the page
in google or the current version of the page itself? I've never been
able to figure that one out? Also has anyone noticed how long it takes
lately for google to update a site's cache?

In order to rank your page(s), Google has to fetch them. Those pages are
(optionally) stored in the cache. I have no idea how long it takes for a
fetched and processed page to be accessible via the cache link, but
can't imagine it will take days.

Nope, but I hardly check those things. I just did and a page that got
modified earlier this week is in the cache. In the past my pages showed
up shortly after I had uploaded them (often within a day or so).
