name--divorce and remarriage--and does not wish to have her ex-husband
associated with her business. As her last name is part of the domain name
this puts her in a pickle: how to change the domain name without *going
dark* in the search engines. I have heard conflicting comments over the
effectiveness of doing a permanent 301 redirect. I understand that she will
need to do considerable work to make sure all back links to her site are
updated. But I am looking for some advice on what is the best way to make
this transition. Should the old site stay up in its entirety with a link to
the new until the new site is picked up by the SE and ranks high again? If I
remove the old content from the old site but leave up the home page with the
news of the name change--will this old site suddenly drop? Any thoughts on
easing this transition would be appreciated.
