links and keywords are irrelevent to your placement in the search
It presents several case studies that show conclusively that the
algorithm used by Google's search engine is flawed with serious "bugs"
that deny many websites the high ranking that they should otherwise be
granted while granting it to those who shouldn't have it.
The article is entitled "Google PageRank, Inbound Links and Keywords
Irrelevant - An Analysis of Google's Search Algorithm"

Re: Article: An Analysis of the Google Search Engine Algorithm
I agree, backlinks with keyword as link text is not only relevant, it is one of the
most important factors to a high ranking. Although the article is
correct that PageRank carries no where near the weight it used to, backlinks (and it
doesnt matter where they come from as long as they are not from
a bad neighborhood) count and are still imo a major factor to ranking.
Google bombing still works, and as prime example, do a search for "misreable loser"
on Google (George Bush targetted) . Just one example of the power
of incoming links and link text (A blog campaign brought that about). Also,
linktrade.biz sites are commonly near or at the top of the SERPs (for a
little while anyway).
It used to be the case of 'get as many links from high pagerank related quality sites
as possible'. This has now changed to simply get as many links,
from wherever you can, as possible. Google does not show many of the backlinks (from
pr4 only) so it is easy to think a site has very few backward
links when in fact they may well have thousands. You can check exactly how many
through a link popularity tool such as my own
(http://www.abakus-internet-marketing.de/en/online-tools.htm#lp ) or the one from
Marketleap. If you want to know the true linkage figures you should
never use the google backward link function.
This of course means that blog, forum, guestbook spamming (guestbooks to a lesser
degree nowadays) pays dividends.
PageRank is no longer that important, link text is even more important than it used
to be as is a keyword in a domain/url.
Google haven't got to grips with the link spammers yet and they are losing the
battle. IMO the article is misleading as good quality content will get
linked to (IF the webmaster makes an effort to seek links) and it's links, combined
with ideal link text, that perhaps now outweighs even on page
optimization (see 'miserable failure' example) .
