anybody knows, the experts here here might. :)
I am looking for _offline_ software that will create a web directory
to be uploaded to a server.
I know scripts/software that runs on the server is available, but they
are usually to do with allowing other people to submit sites and often
too complicated for what I need. I would prefer not to use PHP or CGI,
but just have static webpages in the style of DMOZ or what Yahoo used
to be like, since I believe it's less server intensive, and less
likely to provide security holes.
Does anybody know of any offline software programs where you can input
data and it generates HTML pages with links, in directory (dmoz,
old-yahoo etc) style? I'm surprised I haven't been able to find any.
Re: Anybody know of any web directory creation software?
You might try Arelis - have a look at www.axandra.com where you can
probably get a free download trial version of the software. It's offline
or desktop based but whether it will build you a comprehensive enough
directory I don't know as it won't build more than 1 subdirectory depth.
Unless of course they have updated the program and changed it, which is
possible. It builds static html pages (or whatever extension you wish to
use) to your template specification.
