Another redirect question?

Hello Everyone,

I have a news page that has a PR=5. I am dividing up the news into two
topics and putting them each into a blog format with RSS Feeds.

Is it better to do a 301 redirect from the current html news page to one of
the two new pages or keep the current page and put two links pointing to the
new pages?

I am thinking of doing the linking rather than a redirect.

What do you think from an SEO viewpoint?

Thanks a lot,

When I changed a lot of URLs in one of my sites; I put in a 301
redirect. When Yahoo finally listed the new URLs for those pages, I
removed the redirect as it was no longer needed [in my opinion].

You could leave up the old page, and share the new URL through it for
the spiders, then after a few weeks remove the older page. I have done
that method in the past also when only changing 1 or 2 pages location
or URL within the site. The old page, when removed, may still show up
in the search engine's index for a couple or so weeks until that is

Either-or method will work for what you want to do in my opinin - with
about the same results.

Thanks Carol. That's what I thought. I want to go with the page linking
method for this one because it lets me tell visitors that there are now two
news pages for different topics rather than the one they are expecting. If I
did the redirect, they would land on one of the two pages with no

But I can always do a 301 in a few weeks.

Thanks Again,
