With modern robotics, the tapes can be quite fast. Think about
how many web pages Google has in it's cache (total number times
average size) and what percentage of them never get accessed by
any user. Now think about the savings you get if you offload
all cached pages that haven't been asked for in the last few
months to tape, putting them back on disk for several months if
someone looks at one. The savings can be substantial.
