Steve,
When you get this message it normally refers that you have lost the master
boot record or been infected by a virus which has taken some core system
files.
I would suggest booting with your restore CD as if you were setting up
windows again. If the system detects a previous install of Windows then you
will be home and dry, if not - start contemplating data recovery with a high
price!
