Hi all,

I have a Toshiba laptop whose internal DVD/CDRW drive
is just tedious to deal with. I need to write DVDs.
Does anyone know however if I can just pop out what's
in there and replace it with another one? It doesn't
matter to me if the face plate doesn't look precisely
the same as the old one.

Thanks.

You can probably do that - usually a five inch slimline drive. OTOH,
for very little cash you can put together a USB2 enclosure and a good
full size drive (NEC is good) for maybe half the price of a notebook
replacement. www.newegg.com is good for browsing.

You can do that, but where there are few if any electrical issues, there
are a LOT of mechanical issues, the door being one (looks are one thing,
but if it doesn't close .....). Also, the slimline notebook DVD burners
are very expensive at this time (well over $200). It can be done, but
it's a real can of worms.
