I need to replace the hard drive in a Sony Vaio PCG-NV100.
Unfortunately, I cannot find the access to the drive. Does anyone know
how to get to it? Thanks!

That's a great idea but I don't have one and can't locate one. I've
contacted Sony and they say they won't provide any information to allow
me to get to the hard drive. I can send the laptop to them and they'll
look at it but they won't help me to do it myself.

It should be easy. I've replaced hard drives in other laptops and
typically you find it by opening one of the obvious access panels on
the back of the unit. Not so in this case.

Some laptops (not just Sony models, either .... I can name a few
Toshibas, even) require total disassembly to change the hard drive.
It's rare, it's stupid, but it does happen.

This is one the the 'high style' Vaio notebooks that have to be opened
by removing all of the screws marked ==> on the bottom, including a
couple under the rubber feet. Since it is a vaio, there might be a
secret incantation with colored smoke after that. You can try posting
to the the vaio forum at http://pub173.ezboard.com/bunofficialsony .
There isn't much activity in the last year (vaios more reliable?), but
give it a try. www.notebookforms.com is another choice.
