Hello, three newbie questions:

If I have Windows loaded and am using it for regular programs and the
MCE blue console is not running, will the system still record shows, or
does the Media Center program need to be running?

Also, coming from mythtv, one cool feature was the ability to view a
webpage that let me view a program guide and schedule recordings. It
additionally let me monitor disk space and do basic functions like
delete shows. Does MCE have something like this?

Finally, I'm going to run out of disk space before I get a chance to
watch some of the shows I've recorded (other family members seem to be
recording a plethora of programs as well). What would be nice is the
ability to convert these to a format that is still high quality, but
takes less space. I know I'm asking a lot, but even better would be a
format that I could easily burn to DVD and watch in the DVD player with
out losing too much quality. I'm surprised that it takes 3GB/hr for
media... can anyone suggest a freeware plugin for mce or a freeware
tool that will grab the movies before they expire and convert them to a
more space conscious format?

The MCE UI doesn't need to be running.
If your machine supports it, it should also startup and do any
scheduled recordings when the machine is in standby/hibernation.

I think it does - depending where you are in the world! In the UK I
don't believe there is such a facility - however you can use remote
desktop to connect to the PC and use the MCE UI to do those things.

There are 3'rd party utilities to do that. I've not used any myself
though. Perhaps others have some suggestions.
