Hi I just set up my first HTPC. Using media center.
Everything works, but I would like to know what kind of video quality
should i expect when recording?
The reason i ask is that even when i record HD channels like OASIS the
quality seems low.
If I play a dvd with the system the picture is very nice(DVD quality).
Should I expect at least dvd quality when recording, because right now
i am only getting quality like a regular analog channel.
I have set up MC in best quality. Just changed my s-video connector to
a super high quality silver wire+++.
My specs are
CPU = AMD athlon 2500+
Video card ATI 9600 connected to tv via VGA
512m memory.
Like mentioned to view dvd the quality is real nice therefore should't
be a video card issue.
Also is there any way to stretch MC to take up my whole 50" tv screen,
I can't get passed 1" black border all around. The Satellite takes up
everything.
TIA

The Hauppauge 150 is an SD card, so you aren't going to receive HD through
it, you also can't get HD using an s-video connector, it also can only pass
a normal 480 SDTV signal.

That said, even under ideal conditions, recording from
cable/sat/antenna/etc. on a PC isn't ever going to look like a DVD. The card
encodes the signal to MPEG, it gets written to your drive, then the PC uses
software to decode it when you view it. This is being done with a $70 tuner
card in a few hundred dollar PC, which can't compete with the $$$$ in
equipment used to produce a commercial DVD.

If you recordings look really bad, you might check you signal; try removing
any splitter etc. When I record off a good strong station, I think the
recording look pretty darn close to original broadcast.

Thanx Jaime that was a perfect answer. it doesn't look that bad it
looks like a vcr type image. But now that I know it is normal I will
just enjoy it. I wasn't expecting HD quality more like DVD quality.
