Hey,

so I've been trying to set it up so I can access my video collection
whilst on the road from my new Blackjack and haven't had any luck
getting any videostreams to play.

I'm using VLC as the video server (for now) which has the option of
streaming as WMV1 or WMV2 using ASFX encapsulation, and I've tried
various other codecs and protocols (UDP, HTTP, MMSH) but I keep getting
errors that say either "An unknown error 0x80070057 has occurred" or
"Cannot play the file. The file is either corrupted or the Player does
not support the format you are trying to play."

In my troubleshooting attempts, I first confirmed that I'm streaming to
port 1234 and I've tried a large number of variations on the URL
including:

http://domain.tld
http://domain.tld/
http://domain.tld:1234
http://domain.tld:1234/
domain.tld
domain.tld/
domain.tld:1234
domain.tld:1234/

and all that with the IP instead of domain and variations of the
http:// ones using mmsh://, asfx://, asf://, and wmp://

my firewall is open on both my local computer and my LAN.

I've come up dry with all that, so I set up a machine that I have bare
on the internet (not behind a firewall) and configured the firewall
software to log all attempted connections to it but found that there
were no attempted connection attempts which leads me to believe that
I'm not forming the URL properly in WMP.

any ideas?

I've got a Samsung Blackjack which is running Windows Media Player 10
Mobile v10.3 (Build 15100)

thanks in advance!

ps: I really wish samsung came up with a better idea. attempts to
google "blackjack streaming video" yield nothing but gambling and porn
sites.

First, confirm that there are no drm protection on these files.

Next, confirm that if you copy one of these files to the device, opening
it will play it on the device... if not, it's an app compatibility problem.

Assuming that you can see the files when you connect to those addresses
in pie, what happens if you select the file?

Put some wma files in the same directory and see if tapping them in pie
will result in them streaming to wmp.

If the wma files play and the video doesn't, it's a file or mime
association issue.

forgot to confirm, if you are using a non http: (80) port number, you
will need to add a colon and portnumber to the url

there is definitely no DRM on the files.

I copied a WMV file to my device and was able to play it back (albeit a
little slowly because it was a little higher bitrate than I think my
phone can handle).

the files don't show up when I try to connect since I'm using streaming
software (using the stream wizard from VLC). I put the file on one of
my webservers and when I choose the file from the list, IE asks if I
want to download it (on the Blackjack).

I can connect to the stream from windows media player in XP (WMP
Version 11.0.5721.5145 -- using File>Open URL) and typing in
http://my.domain.tld:1234 so I'm not sure it's the streaming software.

I don't have any way of making WMA files... I don't have any windows
computers (I had to call my friend up to see if he could connect to the
stream above, and he was).

also of note.... the errors pop up instantaneously. I don't think the
Blackjack is even connecting to the server.
