I have contacts on outlook 2003 running on Win xP home ed. I have journal
entries connected to these contacts in the journal folder in the activities
tab of each contact.

Outlook was originally set up for my wife's computer as lois' contacts. I
moved over my .pst file, and attached outlook to my file as john's contacts.
Both show up in the contact pane.

i set up john's contacts for a journal entries, by creating a journal folder
in the activity tab. I can now see the journal entries for each of "john's
contacts" in outlook 2003.

However, when I use HP supplied active-sync software to sync contacts to my
IPAQ hx2400, I see only lois contacts. I don't see john's contacts and none
of the corresponding journal entries.

I see these journal entries as one of the most valuable things to store on
the IPAQ and keepin sync with my home pc.

It seems to by syncing only the intial personal folder (which i renamed
lois' contactds), and ignoring my additiona personal folder(which I renamed
"John's contacts"). I don't really understand how personal folders are
managed by outlook, and find them irritating, How can I include the 2nd set
of personal folders int he sync process??
Thanks,
John

A few thoughts:
- "HP supplied ActiveSync". There might be a later version down-loadable
from Microsoft.com. Look for V3.8 if you are using PocketPC 2003, and V4.2
if you are using Windows Mobile 5.
- ActiveSync can only synchronise the top level folder for each type of
element (contacts, calendar, notes, tasks etc). So if you have more than one
user, or different folders, or different sub-folders, these will not be
synced using AS. There may be other sync programs available,
e.g.http://www.syncdata.it/syncexp¬ress.html or Pumatech's Intellisync -
http://www.sync.com/, but I don't know if these do better or not.
- I don't think if any journal entries will be synced by AS.

Active Sync seems to move only the default folder. In outlook 2003, Is there
a simple way to move (or copy) contacts from another personal folder to the
default folder??

I tried this, I could copy the entire folder, and make a sub-folder of the
default folder. But I could not move or copy individual contacts into the
default folder.
Thanks,
John

Hi,

If you want to copy contacts from one pst file to another, simply select the
contacts (for all contacts press Ctrl + a) and then copy (click Edit ->Copy
or click Ctrl + c), select the folder in which you want them into and paste
(click Edit -> Paste or ctrl + v)

If you wish to move them then simply drag and drop the selected contacts.

One suggestion, since you are going to merge two sets of contacts, it is
advisable you apply a category before you do the above steps that way you
will be able to easily identify the contacts that have moved from the pst
file. To apply a category across all contacts, select all the contacts,
right-click and click Categories and apply a category... example: "John's
Contacts". For more information -
