hello

I have a HP Pavillion dv1000 which either powers up intermittently and
then dies or doesn't power up at all. More often than not when I press
the power button the blue led lights flash for a second as if it is
going to start but then all goes dead - on the odd occasion there is
totally nothing when I press the power button i.e. no sign of life at
all. What puzzles me is that if I lift the computer up and move it
around while continually pressing the power button it will eventually
start albeit for an indeterminate length of time. Very occasionally it
will stay on indefinitely or at least until I move it.
I've been told that it is a power problem related to the system board
but what I don't understand is why when I move it around it always
starts after a few attempts?

Many thanks

It could be lots of things. It could be a connection that has come loose
from the inside of the laptop. And what happens if you remove the
battery and try on AC? And what happens if you just try off of the
battery without AC?

I was having the same problem with my dv1000 for a few weeks.
Yesterday, when powering it on, it emitted a loud "PoP!", and now it's
completely dead. I'll try taking the battery out, but I think it's
beyond that. The CD still spins, and the lights come on, but the hard
drive shows no sign of life. Has anyone found a way to repair this? I
looked at reviews on CNET and saw that others have had the same
experience. Thanks!

It might be the hard drive just failed. And most laptops, it is so easy
to replace them nowadays. As for the past 10 years or so, most have a
door on the bottom to access the hard drive.

Thanks Bill

Removing the battery with AC makes little difference to the pattern of
behaviour. If however i try to boot it on battery only it is less
successful and seems to be showing no life at all the last few times
I've tried it. If it's a loose connection where do you think it might
be?
