Hello group(s),

I just released the new beta version of ActiveLink PHP XML Package that
works in both PHP4 and PHP5. The package is not dependent on any other XML
extensions or libraries and is completely written in PHP.

If anyone is interested in testing the beta version, please do so. You can
get the 0.4.0-beta version from:

http://www.active-link.com/software /

The package is freely redistributeable under the terms of LGPL.

But it will make use of them when available? Parsing large XML files can be
rather slow otherwise...

Great points. The package is good for small to medium size XML files - i.e.
if you are counting your file sizes in megabytes, parsing with this package
is likely to be unacceptably slow. However, it works very well with things
like configuration files, web services, documentation, and anywhere else
people throw in XML these days.

The obvious advantage is you can redistribute this package with your
software, without having to rely on or require particular PHP versions or
their XML libraries that may or may not be available on your
users' [hosting] servers. Besides, it has a very simple interface too.

Having said that, I think it's a great idea to make it use different XML
libraries or parsers if they are present. I'll look into feasibility to
implement that. I just wish there were more hours in one day...
