I'm thinking of building a website kind of like craigslist or like
kijiji and I'm not sure what would be the best structure for this.
It will have many different categories. I want to specify different
input fields in the posting form. For cars the user would for example
choose the car make from a list, enter the mileage, and so on but for
an electronics category he would enter different information. For the
search page, I would like to create a search sort of like kayak.com
with filters (you can just search for anything, you will see a filter
menu on the left side) or like
"refine your search". Also, after a certain point, people may want to
add sub categories and under cars I would add "classic" cars or
"sports" cars... so after that I'm not sure what to do with the
existing items in the previous category once people add sub
categories... I'm also kind of worried about code replication, I don't
want to create a separate search/post file for every category. Should
I create a template for each category in php/xml form? What about the
database? Thanks for your help.
Re: need help with structure
Nope. Ideally, the differences between the categories will be handled
automatically by what data is available for each category. You'll
probably want different templates for each function, such as adding,
updating, viewing, deleting, though.
You should probably have one, yes. It'll make maintaining the site a lot
