and what firewalls stand between "you" and the "remote" system? Is it on your
LAN or at an ISP? Also one of the fields that must be satisfied in the user
identification is the "host" field in the user table.
SELECT user, password,host from user;
UNAME PWD HOST
myname mypwd localhost
othern otherp systemb
I am on systema and connect using myname/mypwd - this works.
from another system I connect using myname/mypwd - security says "not from
anything but localhost".
grant all on *.* to 'myname'@'systemb' identified by 'password';
update user set host = '%' where user = 'myname';
!! BTW, this is not real smart especially if someone sniffs out the
username/password ,they can have access to the db.
