After installing phpBB I encountered that despite the various languages
available, it is not utf-8 compatible. Also I googled around and checked
out tons of open source message boards available - but the information
on character encoding used is usually not part of the announcement texts...
Are there utf-8 compatible, PHP-/MySQL-based BBS solutions around? I
would highly appreciate some hints and also comments about your
experiences with them!
Re: Forum / BBS / Message board with UTF-8?
Thank you - I have seen this article, but I have some doubts about the
approach. Maybe changing MySQL to UTF-8 is necessary when modifying
existing forums. In the rest of my application, though, I found some
other steps useful that are not mentioned in the article - such as
sending an UTF-8 HTTP header, adding an accept-charset attribute to all
form tags - but setting MySQL to UTF-8 was not necessary.
So I did not feel too much comfortable with this tutorial.
If I don't find a bbs application that uses UTF-8 natively, I think I
will prefer miniBB; it looks just smaller and easier to modify.
