i am using PHP5 with the mbstring extensions, and have it set to
internally use UTF-8 (with all the usual worries about which functions will
correctly work with UTF, etc ...). I have also set up my MySQL database(s)
to store data in UTF-8 format as well. Finally, I save my PHP scripts in
UTF format, so that any string literals are, indeed, UTF-8.
so, the question is: Why is it that when I ask for the
character_set_name() in MySQLi, it's always latin1_swedish_ci ... ?
Is this a problem at all, or should I just not worry about it? Is there
any way to set it to what i want? I can't seem to find any info in the
online manual, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not there....
