I may just have not noticed it before, but it seems that the active screen
(when on) of my HP hx2490b's LCD is not really that well centered, and
slightly shifted to the right. To put it another way, there is about a 1.5
mm wide dark vertical gap on the left and about 0.5 mm similar gap on the
right, of the actual lighted portion of the LCD screen, when on.
I have tried to realign my screen, but it had no effect on the centering of
the active screen.
I wonder if this is normal? and how my screen compares to others...

I would say you have a faulty unit with a poorly fitted screen. The
alingment routine is used to marry up the point touched on the
touchscreen with an equivalent point on the LCD and will not move the
