As a general rule YES.. just make sure you have the correct adapters etc..
If you ron a DELL. depending on the make / model there fairly simple to
replace. (Especially if it's a Lattitude) ..

Please log in for more thread options In generaly, yes, you can use any laptop (e.g. 2.5 inch) hard drive.
Such drives do come in several standard thicknesses, and it goes without
saying that the drive has to fit. But most laptops will take a 12.5mm
drive, while almost all current drives are 9.5mm thick (thinner is ok),
and there are very few of the thicker 18mm drives still floating around
(as far as I know, no drives thicker than 12.5mm are still being made).
You do need to make sure that you get the right interface (IDE or
SATA) ... there are very few SATA 2.5" laptop drives, but they do exist
and some of the very newest very high-end laptops do use them.
Everything else is transparent, although faster rotational speeds and
large cache sizes will provide better performance.

When the hard drive on my notebook (Dell Inspiron 8000) failed, I
replaced it with a 30GB Fujitsu MHT2030AT bought from a university
computer store. I don't recall the original drvie was, but it
wasn't Fujitsu.
