Most Wi-Fi hotspots are paid for by you. Your device will pick them up
but you will need to register and pay in order to use it. Some places
offers free access in order to attract you into their establishment!
Not sure about speeds - most Wi-Fi devices are 802.1b - I think thats
11Kbps - so about LAN speed. Some devices are coming out with 802.1g -
54kKbps - but of course the WAP would to support that.
