Hi
I'm badly in need of some expert help in buying a laptop for
my daily home and office use. Stumbled upon many brands and models
over google but unable to make a better choice.

Here am putting a list of my requirements.

I am basically a web appliaction developer:

1. screen width 14/15.4 inches
2. Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo processor
3. 2 gb Ram( 1gb + 1gb) or even 1gb Ram extendable to 2gb
4. 120/160 gb hard drive
5. dvd RW
6. built in webcam and speakers
7. graphics card Not a great player of games and dont have interest
in playing such
So opting Nvidia doesnt make sense to me
8. i can afford upto 42000/43000 INR

It would be of great hep if any one in this group please take the pain
of analysing my requirements and suggest me a laptop.

One question, question #5, want a dual layer DVD RW or a single layer?
Also do you want DVD+RW or DVD-RW? Or both?

I need a DVD reader and writer

Bill's question is still relevant; "DVD Reader and Writer" has, over the
past 8 years, encompassed about a dozen different devices. However, if
you are buying a newly produce 2008 product, you are going to get a "do
everything" optical drive. But if it's an older product, you might have
to answer the questions that Bill asks. "DVD reader and writer" doesn't
even begin to address all of the possibly almost a dozen different
formats that a given (DVD reader/writer) might or might not support.
It's FAR more complex than just "DVD reader and writer".

If he's buying a new, current production 2008 laptop, it's going to have
a dual layer burner that does both + and - (and pretty much all other CD
and DVD) formats, because that's about all that is being made or used
today. If he's buying an older model, however, then that might not be
the case.
