I have MySQL server 4.0.12-standard installation. How can I upgrade to
4.1.10-standard version?
Of course I can always build a brand new server with a new 4.1.10
install. But other than that final option, is there any other option
available to upgrade my database?

I've found there's usually little that must be done to upgrade a
database from 4.0 to 4.1.  You install the MySQL 4.1 software right over
the 4.0 software, and that's usually all you need to do.

I'd also recommend backing up all your 4.0 databases before installing
the 4.1 software, just in case.  :-)

However, user passwords in the 'mysql' database on 4.1.x use a different
encryption method than passwords in 4.0.x.  To upgrade to 4.1 without
having to re-enter all users' passwords, you can start the mysqld with
the --old-passwords option.

See and for more information
on the password compatibility issue.
