I am trying to get my e-mail on my phone using the messaging feature of
Windows SmartPhone 2003 SE. I have an MPx220 phone.
I went to the site http://www.mywindowsmobile.com and selected my phone, my
provider, entered my e-mail options, entered my phone number and it text
messaged to my phone successfully. It added a new entry called Personal
Mail below Text Messaging and Outlook E-Mail.
PROBLEMS!
1. I selected that my outgoing server requires authentication, however in
the e-mail setup entry that it added, it is not checked.
2. BIG PROBLEM! I turned off my phone and turned it back on. The Personal
Mail entry is missing! I would like to use my phone to check my e-mail
messages while I am away from my computer on a trip, but if the phone just
arbitrarily removes the entry, what's the point? It makes this feature
absolutely useless.
3. Then if I try to add an entry into e-mail setup manually on the phone, I
can enter my name and e-mail address but the next button is grayed out!

By the way, is there an option to specify to store the messages on my memory
card instead of the puny on-board memory of the phone?

Please Microsoft, Motorolla get this right. Maybe it is time for Microsoft
to come out with their own cell phone, maybe then it would work right?
Maybe wishful thinking on my part. I think we are all too easy to forgive
products that almost do what they say they will do. We put up with too many
bugs and features that make the products almost useless to anyone using them
on a daily basis.

I bought this phone with the idea that since it says Microsoft on the screen
that I would expect updates for it, new operating system versions, new media
player, etc. just like Windows XP is for a PC. I would be willing to
purchase a new version of the operating system like I would purchase one for
my computer if it added the features I want and improved the phone. But it
sounds like many of the phones you buy are dead end products. Do they
expect you to buy a new phone every year so you can get the same features
that work maybe a little bit better than the phone you already have?

End of rant.... maybe...

Tom,

I could join you in your rant. However, before joining, just wanted to let
you know that the one feature on my MPx220 that seems to work fine is email.
It syncs automatically with outlook (using Exchange 2003) and two other
email accounts that I manually check for mail: one with comcast and the
other one of my clients' mail systems. So don't give up hope on the mail
thing. I took the manual setup route on all accounts, and they seem to work
fine. Unfortunately, can't find the directions that I used to do the
setup -- otherwise I'd forward them to you.

There are a lot of BUGS! It's hard to say whether they're Microsoft Windows
Mobile 2003, Motorola MPx220, or Cingular. I noticed that sometimes when I
power the phone off and then back on it takes a long time -- maybe 2 minutes
to reboot; makes me think Cingular is loading something to it. One of those
"loads" caused an annoying problem, but neither Cingular nor Motorola will
admit to causing it. The phone worked just fine for the first couple
months. Then for no apparent reason, it now goes into mute mode whenever I
dial from Contacts or use Voice Dial. The party that I call can not hear me
unless I get to the UNMUTE function quickly enough before they keep saying
"Hello, hello, hello" and then hang up.

I just hope they get these Smartphones working in my lifetime, 'cause I
think they'll be great!

Ed

I can synchronize the outlook e-mail option, however I think this is only
good if you are always synchronizing with your computer. What do you use if
you are going to be away from the comptuer for a week?
I have a 3rd option 'personal mail' that is set up to access my Comcast pop
server, however the option goes away for no reason and I can't set it up
again unless I am at the computer, kinda useless if I am away from my
computer.
