Poor screen fit for live TV

Threaded View
Windows Media Center (Vista Ultimate) is cutting off the top and bottom of
our picture.  Unfortunately, we don't see any adjustments that help rectify
this problem.  Does anyone have a recommendation for correcting this
problem?

Watching on TV?

Re: Poor screen fit for live TV

Actually, we are not using a TV, but are watching live TV on our computer
monitor.  The irony is that the picture is fine in full screen mode, but
then is cutoff (top and bottom) when displayed in a window.  Any other
ideas?

RE: Poor screen fit for live TV

I am assuming you are watching on a TV and not a computer monitor.  If you
are just on the Vista desktop (MC not loaded) is part of your desktop also
cutoff?  If yes then you need to make the adjustment in your video cards
configuration application for NVidia or ATI you can find this in the control
panel.  This will allow you to fit your desktop to the TV you are using.
Once done Media Center will appear correctly.

Re: Poor screen fit for live TV

Try using the zoom functions, though keep in mind that Media Center by
default will show the recorded/live tv as it is from the source.  It will
not try to change the aspect ratio to match your output device.

To access the Zoom functions, hit the more info button on your remote and
select zoom while recorded/live tv is being displayed.

Alternatively, you can right click with your mouse, or use the keyboard
shortcut Control-D and then select the Zoom option

Re: Poor screen fit for live TV

Hello Gary,

Perfect! It was the zoom feature that was able to address the problem.  In
fact, there is an even better solution and that is the 'Aspect' button which
is also right on the remote next to the right arrow key.  However, I am
still mystified as to why the full screen aspect ratio matches the aspect
ratio of the broadcast (showing the full picture), but Media Player does not
create a window that will fit the proper aspect ratio of the broadcast.

Thank you very much,

Richard
