'my_TV (live TV)' option of MCE is not working

Threaded View
It's was working ok before (2-3 weeks ago). Now whenever I click on it, it
sends the message: 'Decoder in Use' and suggests to exit all programs and
re-start, it doesn't work! I have read every article on the internet on this
topic and implemented the suggestions given, in particular, I have:
1) Updated Win XP (KB932823-v3)
2) Installed Win Media Player 11.
3) Installed MS .NET framework 2.0
4) Checked video decoder compatibility (I'm using Intervideo WinDVD 7)
5) Downloaded and re-installed the driver for my TV card (hauppauge WinTV-PVR)
Nothing work! Please help! It's driving me crazy!  Thanks.

Dear S. Sengupta,
Thanks a lot for your reply. The answer to your question is YES, I can even
play old recorded TV programs (recorded before this problem showed its ugly
face), can watch DVDs too, but I cannot watch live TV. I dont' understand why!

Have you got any suggestion to overcome this problem?
Thanks again,
Augusto

Re: 'my_TV (live TV)' option of MCE is not working

The problem lies with the TV tuner card  driver.
I shall suggest you to update the driver.Visit the manufacturer's site to
download and install the latest compatible driver.

Did you also download, install and try the Hauppauge WinTV application
program?

Hi curious,
Thanks for your interest in this problem. I have downloaded and installed
'WinTV32' and 'WinTV2000' from Hauppauge's Webpage, neither of them work!
When I fire them, the program replies with the message 'Initialization
error.hTV=10 and then it closes the window!
It's really frustrating because 'live TV' (of MCE) was working ok until
recently. All other options of MEC are working: I can watch DVDs, old TV
recordings, etc. only 'live TV' (the option I bought MEC for!) is broken!
Any suggestion to solve this one?
Again thanks for your message.

Cheers,
Augusto

Re: 'my_TV (live TV)' option of MCE is not working

There is no decoder problem since you could play DVDs or recoded programs
using MC.
There is a tuner/ tuner driver problem.

Try win TV7:  I am not surprised that WinTV32 or WinTV 2000 did not work

If you have the WinTV -PVR 150 is this the driver you installed:

Have you tried making a recording by using the Guide?

Hi Curious,

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, I downloaded and installed WinTV-PVR-150
and now winTV is working beautifully! (I can now watch the finals of the
European soccer cup!). Again thanks for your help,

Cheers,

Augusto

Re: 'my_TV (live TV)' option of MCE is not working

Since WinTV is now working then maybe MediaCenter TV is also now working.

That's exactly what I expected but NO, MediaCenter (myTV) keeps replying
with the message 'Decoder In Use'. Mind you now that I can watch winTV the MC
problem is
less urgent (I may end up deleting MC, if only I could ask MS for a refund
...!).

Thanks for your message,

Augusto
