We already checked that the system is not muted. All other sounds play. It's
only the sound om live TV that doesn't.

Re: Missing sound on live TV

When you are watching a liveTV show and you are not getting sound start a
recording of the program using the red button on the MC interface.  After
about 5 minutes stop watching and close MC.  The start MC back up again and
watch the recording you made from the LiveTV program.  Do you get the sound?

Re: Missing sound on live TV

Yes. We have sound on all other functions of media centre including recorded
TV programmes. It's only missing on live TV. Our computer manufacturer's help
desk are suggesting we wipe and reload everything. Surely there must be a
simpler answer?

Please run the very specific test I proposed and report the result.

Have done. Same result. No sound. Thanks. I hope you can help. No one else
seems to be able to.

Re: Missing sound on live TV

Ok lets try the other option then
Using only the guide in MC select a future program to be recorded and then
later try and play it and confirm that it does have the sound.  If it does
not have sound try and play it with Media Player instead of MC and see if it
has sound.
You could also try playing the recording you made today with Media Player
and see if it has sound.
Only with a lot of different tests will we be able to get to a solution.

Re: Missing sound on live TV

We have done as you suggested. In both cases the sound was there. Someone
suggested it might be a codec problem or a problem with the USB Win TV Nova T
Stick.

Re: Missing sound on live TV

Possibly your tuner and your sound output chip have a IRQ resource conflict
and  the tuner card is stealing the resource.
Go to the laptop manufacturer's website and look for updated drivers or
decoder for your make/model laptop  You should again contact the laptop
manufacturers support again preferably by e-mail so they have time to think
about your problem before responding. I agree certainly a total reinstall
should not be required.
