Is there an interactive red button on the MCE remote that I can use with the
appropriate channels? The red-coloured button doesn't seem to work if it is
meant to.
Thanks

I am guessing you are referring to trying to access the "Red Button"
interactive services as normally available on DVB-T (Freeview in the UK),
DVB-S (Sky Satellite in the UK), and DVB-C (Virgin-Media Cable TV in the
UK).

These services all use MHEG5 to provide the interactive (Red Button)
services, and currently both MCE 2005 and MCE in Vista do not support MHEG5.
Heck, Media Center does not even support Subtitles yet for these systems.

Microsoft are apparently working on adding MHEG5 (and subtitles) to Vista
Media Center but no timescale has been announced.

Windows Vista added effectively zero new features (from a European
perspective), making Vista a complete waste of time (and a huge amount of
money). This forthcoming update (with MHEG5, Subtitles, teletext, etc.) will
it seems justify upgrading. However there are still plenty of other things
missing from a European perspective.

We still can't even use MSN Remote Record for goodness sake!

I agree that there is a long list of missing features but to be fair there is a
sexy new interface that works far better on a widescreen TV. Vista MCE is also
more stable & in particular DVB-T (Freeview) EPG weirdness with disappearing
channels & data has been mostly fixed. Vista also provides both 32-bit & 64-bit
versions of Home Premium & Ultimate which contain the MCE functionality.
