Did it ever work?
If so, try a system restore back to a date that you know it did work.

Re: Clicking LIVE TV in Media Centre CAUSES LAPTOP to FREEZE

The laptop ONLY freezes when I click live tv.
The laptop only freezes 50% of the time when I click 'live tv'.
When I turn off and turn back on the laptop, I am able to watch live tv
without the laptop freezing when I press the 'live tv' button.

THe laptop does not freeze when I play recorded tv, videos or music.
I have recently reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled the operating
system.
I have done a microsoft update.
I have been able to press the 'live tv' button in media centre with no
problems before I reformatted and reinstalled the operating system.

The laptop has an intel dual core processor and has a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
graphics card.

It is possible that when you reinstalled the OS that your tuner card and
your graphics or sound card may be sharing an IRQ. Also be leary of any MS
updates that update drivers since they are often many months behind and
incompatible with your other drivers.  Only install updated drivers from the
vendors websites.

Re: Clicking LIVE TV in Media Centre CAUSES LAPTOP to FREEZE

I scheduled Media Centre to record a 2 hour tv program. Once it had finished
recording, windows says that the file is corrupt.

Which driver (tv tuner, NVIDIA graphics card, etc.) would be causing the
laptop to freeze when I select the 'live tv' button and cause recorded tv
programs to be corrupt?

Also where do you go to find out what version of tv tuner driver you have
installed?

Re: Clicking LIVE TV in Media Centre CAUSES LAPTOP to FREEZE

It certainly acts like a tuner or tuner driver problem.
In hardware device manager under Sound, Video  etc. Properties.
Suggest that you get the latest version from the HP Webb site and install it
anyway .
Has it ever worked if not then the tuner hardware may be bad?

Re: Clicking LIVE TV in Media Centre CAUSES LAPTOP to FREEZE

The problem has been fixed!

The Windows Media Centre frezing problem was due to the tv tuner driver I
had installed. The update which was installed was from the manufacturer's
website (HP). I fixed the problem by searching the tv tuner itself for a
driver. When it found one I installed it. The freezing problem appears to
have been fixed. The recorded tv file which I had recorded under the tv
driver which was causing freezing problems is no longer corrupt and can be
played fine in windows media centre.

Thanks for all your help.

Re: Clicking LIVE TV in Media Centre CAUSES LAPTOP to FREEZE

Can you play a prevsioulsy recorded TV program or a sample program?
Have you tried removing and reinserting the tuner?  I suggest that this only
be done when computer is shutdown.
