What are the advantages and disadvantages of linux vs. Windows, or are
they pretty equivalent?
I'm unhappy with my current (linux) host and ready to switch. The
organization whose website I oversee (but am not webmaster for) uses a
hosting company that I've been pleasantly impressed with, but their
shared hosting is all Windows. I don't like the interface as much,
but that may just be because it's not what I'm used to (I hate
change.) Given that I've found their support staff to be superb,
their prices very reasonable, and the reliability excellent, is there
any reason other than comfort to stick with linux?

Linux is infinitely more secure. This is extremely important; Even
moreso if you are going to utilize your host's smtp.
It's also considerably less expensive and easier to create an EXACT
local mirror of your Linux host down to the distribution. This can be
very useful for complex applications.
I am far from impartial. I believe that LAMP is the gold standard and
will continue to be for some time to come.

If MGW's client has server-side scripts utilizing MySQL or PostgreSQL,
they will almost certainly need a major revamp unless she's astoundingly
lucky enough to migrate to to a WAMP server ;-)

Thanks. That's too bad to hear.
I should have added that I have very simple needs, no scripts, no
database. However, I would use it for incoming email but not
outgoing. The account I'd get is very inexpensive.
