This is about as cheap as they get. I don't have this one.

With usb devices, take note of the speed of the ports on each
end and of the interface you use. File transfer can be terribly
slow...or medium quick, depending on the hardware. Also be aware
that many devices that are advertised as USB2.0 compliant are
NOT USB 2.0 high speed. Most of these devices come with zero
documentation and zero support. You can't even find out who
made it. It's almost impossible to find
out what they can do before you buy it.

As others have suggested, for the same or less money you can
get a wired or wireless network interface that can be much
more useful in general.

And for many file transfer applications, a $10 thumb drive
can be very effective. If you expect to open files on the
other machine, this obviously won't work.

You've made me curious. I'm gonna go find my usb-usb interconnect
and see what it can do.

Yes, but you shouldn't ... you should just network them with a network
(Ethernet) cable.

Note1: The best way to do this, by far, is with a router. If you use
JUST a cable, it needs to be a crossover cable, and you will need to do
some special software configuration on both machines.

Note2: It can be done with a USB DEVICE also, as your question
suggested. This is not as good a way of doing it as with networking,
and it's not just a USB CABLE, it's a USB DEVICE (e.g. it has active
components in it and software that you will have to install on BOTH
machines).
