Hi all,
I own an HP pavilion ze1230 laptop (about 3.5 years old).  Recently my
synaptics touchpad stopped working and I trapped it to a pesky little
cable with worn-out conductors.

It's a flat 12-conductor ribbon cable, AWM 2896 (80C), about 3 inches
long.  They're made by Sumitomo:

They're impossible to find online, the only place I found that sold
them was out of stock.  If anybody has a busted laptop with this cable,
or happens to have a spare, I'd like to buy it off you!  Or any tips on
where to buy it would be good too.  Thanks a lot,

Dan Lenski

I had a similar problem because I didn't realize there were clips to
release the cable from it's seating.  I removed the old connectors
from the cable and pealed the sheathing back to create a new end.  If
that doesn't work for you, I found these two items on eBay:

I hope that helps.

Re: WTB: synaptics touchpad ribbon cable

The biggest single mistake that untrained users make when they attempt
laptop repairs is not knowing about ZIF sockets (ZIF = zero insertion
force).  The lack of such knowledge often destroys entire laptops.
