Where did that 3% go?

Bought an IBM Thinpad just a week ago and now it won't charge higher than
97%. On the first day of use I most certainly recall it being right up at
100%. Is this a battery fault or the norm for a 7 day old laptop? Any
pointers would be much appreciated.

Re: Where did that 3% go?

it sounds strange, but I suspect that maybe the capacity recognized at
first time usage was a higher capacity than you have now. that means that
now, even when the battery is loaded up to 100%, the chip that measures
the capacity, comes at a maximum of 97% because the capacity isn't higher
than that ..

i hope it's clear what I'm talking about ;-)

you could test a new battery to check if there's a bigger hardwareproblem
(which I'm fairly sure there isn't). but buying a new battery - just for
these 3% .. I'm sure it's not worth. ;-)

The charger doesn't kick in until the battery is less than a certain
amount drained. On my T30 it kicks in at around 96%.  Drain to say 90%
and let it recharge without interruption. See what happens.

Re: Where did that 3% go?

Try a battery caliberation at this time
by charging the battery then drain it until its dead
then recharge..
