Volume OSD missing

Do you have a question? Post it now! No Registration Necessary.  Now with pictures!

Threaded View
I was messing with msconfig, unchecking a whole bunch of stuff, and now I
don't see on screen when I change the volume on my IBM T42.
Does anyone know how to get that back?

Re: Volume OSD missing

I just realized I don't see any OSD when adjusting the screen brightness
Fn+home or end.

Unless you actually deleted keys from the registry, all you have to do
is recheck whatever function key app you unchecked.  Have a look at each
entry and Google the exe, dll, etc. name to find which is needed.  You
can also use the startup app table at

Re: Volume OSD missing

You should be able to go to the "startup" tab in msconfig and check "enable
all"  Chances are one of the "services" (also called daemons) that you
disabled was responsible for monitoring the special function keys.

Re: Volume OSD missing

It is not very smart to mess with system files when you do not know
what you are
doing.  Try system restore (Start > All Programs >
Accessories > System Tools >
Sytem Restore).  Choose a date
before you changed stuff around and it should put
it all back.
