works for reading CD's and software, but when I put a
blank CDR in, it just clicks and runs for a second or two, and I get a message
that says "disk not inserted in drive". Thinking
maybe it was a driver problem, I downloaded the original and an update, but then
get an error message that says "The target software
suitable for updating is not installed". Does this sound like a software
problem I can fix, or is it time send it to repair? Thanks
for any help.

Try repairing Operating system from Microsoft OS cd .... steps ... boot
from Cd .... let Setup load up files ...Once on the Welcome to Windows
Xp Page , Press Enter ... then Pres F8 ( to agree to MS Licensing
Agreement ) ... Press R to Repair OS ... Issue also depends on the S/w
which you are using to burn cd/ dvd s ( for example Sonic Recordnow or
Intervideo Win DVD Creator ) . Repair process takes approx 45 mins to
