Just bought a Compaq armada m700. Basic/silly question, but how do I upgrade
the RAM? Previous laptops have had a simple bit on the base that slides out,
but on the Compaq it's all screwed in place and I don't want to make a

You'll find the memory slots (I seem to recall two?) under the keyboard. To
remove the keyboard slide the 4 black tabs on the function-key row down
towards the space-bar - you'll find the first tab between the Esc and F1
keys. Just gently lift the keyboard away from the base, being sure not to
disturb the keyboards fragile flexible connectors.

Once you've installed the memory and are satisfied the laptop likes them,
replace the keyboard and pop the tabs back in the upward position :)

Hope That Helps!

Re: Upgrading memory

On my Armada I unscrewed the cover and underneath there are two slots, one
was empty so I bought the required memory and plugged it in. Just don't
forget to discharge yourself of any static by touching earth first.
Try  www.offtek.co.uk for memory. Find your model first and it will tell you
what memory is required and what the maximum you can use on your machine.

Go to the Compaq website and download or just open a copy of the Maintenance
and Service Guide for your Armada M700.  Instructions for installing memory
is available in that document.  It appears that your memory is stored
beneath the keyboard.   That's one thing I like about Compaq laptops, Compaq
is one of the few companies that I am aware of that offers a maintenance and
service guide for the products.
