Upgrade laptop CPU ???

My son has an Acer Travelmate 2410 which has a Celeron CPU and wants to
know if it can be upgraded to something more powerful. I suspect that he
needs a new & better system altogether. What can you tell us?

If he wants to run first person shooter games and fantasy rpg's he
probably needs better graphics capability. Is this available in
laptops/desknotes or does he have to bite the bullet and sacrifice his
mobility for a desktop?

Thanks for any help and advice.

Almost a given that playing rpg's will be best with a medium-to-high end
video card, and that requires a desktop computer.  ASUS sells a notebook
with a mobile nVidia GeForce 8600GM card, but that is a poor cousin to
the desktop GeForce cards.  For the price of the notebook (around
$1800), one can purchase a faster desktop cpu with a decent 450-500watt
power supply, a moderately priced video card, and a good sized LCD display.

Besides, one can tinker with a desktop while there are no
user-serviceable parts in a notebook.
