there are so many universal batteries out there that claim they can give at
least 3-5 hours depending on your laptop model....do these batteries really
work? I'd be happy to even get 2 hours and my laptop is a 19v. If these
batteries do work, who makes the best ones?

If my experience is any indication, you'd be better off buying a spare
battery or two for your specific laptop model if you really need to work
cordless for that long.  I bought one of those big, flat N-Charge
external batteries to use with my Averatec when its original equipment
battery started heading south.  It didn't last two weeks before I had to
take its lifeless carcass back to Best Buy for a replacement.  Then the
connector that goes between the AC adapter and the laptop gave up the
ghost just before the warranty ran out.  And not only did I never get
anywhere close to the claimed run times, but it didn't last anywhere
near as many cycles as a standard laptop battery.  I'd have been much
better off buying a pair of OEM batteries for my Averatec than throwing
my money away on this thing.

Granted, this is only one manufacturer; others may really make useful
products.  Frankly, though, I wouldn't bet on it.

Very good advice.  At least with a new OEM battery there is recourse if
it does not work.
