Toshiba Tecra S2 - Video Drivers

I have an old Toshiba Tecra S2 laptop that crashes occassionally when
you try to play games, it goes to a blue screen of death with an error
code that involves the graphic drivers.

I want to upgrade the video drivers on this machine, it has an ATI
Mobility Radeon X600. But when I try to upgrade from ATI's site it
tells me the drivers aren't compatable and I need to get them from
Toshiba's site. But on that site the only graphic drivers they offer
for this model are from 2005.

So... Am I screwed or is there a way to get ATI's normal drivers
working in this machine? Am I forced to use the customized Toshiba
version from 2005?

(ps I've also tried Omega drivers, the problem remained)

Re: Toshiba Tecra S2 - Video Drivers

As you seem to have guessed already, components in Toshiba laptops and
other 'big brands' are custom-made and therefore require custom drivers
for them to function properly. It's for that very reason that the 'big
brand' manufacturer's keep their own driver libraries -- it's the only
source available to the public for the correct drivers.

With a laptop, of course, it's particularly frustrating since much of
the hardware can't be upgraded, including the video-controller. Having
said that, a laptop (and especially an older one) is not particularly
suitable as a gaming platform anyway.
