FWIW, I was in a position to try some different memory modules on this
laptop in an effort to get it to exceed 256mb of RAM, and nothing
worked. I saw previous messages here where people claimed they could
exceed the 256mb spec, but they could not recall the memory type.
I settled on the Kingston 128MB modules.
Re: Toshiba Tecra 8000 memory
high density memory, even on a desktop motherboard. You can use 256
megabyte modules, but the architecture of the module MUST be 16 chips of
16 megabytes each; if you use higher density chips (typically 8 chips of
32 megabytes each), the BX chipset will see only half of the memory
module. Well, I don't think that it's possible to make a laptop SO-DIMM
with 16 chips, just due to physical size constraints.
