Toshiba T1200 problem

I got a Toshiba T1200 laptop at a second hand store a few days ago and
I cant get it to work. When I plug it in, the light over the power
supply (back left corner of the computer) turns on red. After a few
hours it turns green. It does this if it's on or off when I plug it in.
When I turn it on, the power light above the keyboard blinks once and
the display flickers for a split second. That's it. Then the light at
the back starts blinking red.

There is a switch on the battery that shows red in one position. It has
no effect on anything as far as I can tell. Removing the battery makes
the light turn green right away.

What's wrong?  Is it the external power supply I'm using (not Toshiba,
1-24v adjustable 3.5a 60w max) the power supply board inside, or the
motherboard? Or something else? Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like a shorted battery.  Try it without the battery. wrote:
