Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 overheats

Running WXP, this laptop reached a point where as soon
as I flip it open, the fan is kicking on. It frequently
shuts itself down from overtemp.

Even with no load (CPU utilization under 10%) and nothing
running, the heat builds up, the fan kicks on and whammo,
down it goes.

Any experiences out there with this beast?

It's about a year old, and I'm contacting Toshiba to see
what they say....

Re: Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 overheats

Try blowing the dust out of the air vents in both directions. An air
compressor works best, but you could try a vacuum with the hose set up for
blowing. Or even those cans of compressed air for blowing off keyboards.
Even if you don't see dust in the air vents, it can still be in the fan and
heatsink fins in the laptop.

Good luck

Usually dirty or dust-clogged cooling fins.  Can sometimes be cleaned
from the outside, but some models require disassembly. wrote:

Re: Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 overheats

Thanks very much for the tips. I will try blowing out the dust.
In the spirit of doing a thorough job, I'd like to partially
disassemble the unit,
and at least expose the main board. I'm pretty good with this stuff,
but my experience is that laptops are tricky beasts.

I'm trying to locate a service manual for the Satellite A45-S121
(will to pay of course). It's very odd, Googling around and searching
on Ebay,
it seems you can get a service manual for every Toshiba notebook
EXCEPT the A40/A45 series - maybe it's me....

Anyway, of you  know of a resource where I can get a service manual for
this beast, I'd appreciate it. Still searching.
