The device manager logs no errors.(I have the Crystal Sound Fusion
I got this machine from a colleque but he wasn't sure if the sound was
working before I've updated to winxp(he had win95 on this machine).
I remember that there must be some sort of easybutton-program to
activate the volume and other buttons, but I can't find this anymore
on the Toshiba site or elsewhere.Does anyone know how I can test this
machine to see if maybe this is a driver or a hardware issue?

Let's say you're partially right. There's a volume controle push
button with a - and + side to change the volume. After installing the
easy button software (only available for Windows 2000), when pushing
either site of this button shows on screen the volume bar changes, so
Unfortunenatly, there's still no sound. None from the speakers, none
from the headphone. I'm afraid the on board sound chip is defect. Any
ideas how to check further? Thanks.
