Re: Toshiba laptop plastic fault

This is a common problem in laptops with hinges that are too tight.  In
my view it's both a design defect and also a materials defect in the
particular machine, but the mfgrs. usually will not cover it under any
warranty.  It's a fairly major repair, to do it right the hinges (which
are the "root cause" of the problem) usually should be replaced.  The
parts will cost about $100, and it usually takes a couple of hours to do
the job of replacing both the hinges and the lid plastics.

I do realize that maufacturer and its retailer will claim that I have
caused the demage by improper use.

In fact since I have bought it over 19 months back I have not taken it
out to anywhere for more than 3 times, last time being 8 months back.

I use it as desktopPC and there is no child in the house who would sit
on the machine.

Yes every time I use it I open the lid and then shut it tight so
keyboard does not collect any fine dust. This can happen 3 times during
the day.

I will take it to the retailer from where I have bought it as I have
warranty for another 17 months.

Have to take it from there, but if he says he will repair it only by me
making payment I am prepared to fight. How and through what that I will
have to figure out.

Hope someone with expeience can guide me.
