on ac when the adapter is plugged in? A short while ago I took the
notebook apart and replaced a broken dc jack. The notebook would not
charge or run on ac. Now the battery charges , but when you are using
the NB, and plug the ac adapter in, the battery symbol stays in the
taskbar and continues to run on battery instead of ac. Also the
battery will not recharge unless the NB is shutdown, WTF? Could this
be a battery issue? If you have any ideas please let me know, as
is really annoying.
Thanks in advance.
Re: toshiba a-70 power problem
Ordinarily, the plug in the laptop allows the unit to charge (or
maintains charge) while also powering the laptop. This way, in
the event that you lose power, your computer resorts to battery
and your laptop doesn't miss a beat.
Here's what I would do in your shoes..
I would first verify that you've got the appropriate DC output
from your external switching supply. I would also verify that
this DC voltage IS maintained while connected to the unit under
load (powered on).
Have you tried removing the battery and running the laptop only
on the switching supply? IF it still doesn't run under this
situation, then either the laptop isn't getting power to the
motherboard (possibly through the connector) OR your switching
supply is, in fact, defective as revealed under a load.
In any case, we can go back and forth on this all day long and it
won't "fix" your situation. Unless you've got troubleshooting
experience and test equipment, this will be rather difficult to
pursue beyond this point. Another disadvantage to nearly *any*
laptop on the market today, you not only don't get original OS
discs when purchased new, you don't get any schematics of any
kind! That's why companies LOVE to sell their laptops at all the
office stores. They're at a premium cost AND IF service is ever
necessary, it usually has to go back to the manufacturer.
