the system restarts after shut down

I been using this new HP Pavillion for about a week.  It has WinVista Home
Premium.  Yesterday when I commanded shut down (using the start button menu)
it shut down OK but after about 3 seconds it started back up.  Now, every
time I shut it down it starts back up about 3 seconds after the power goes
off.  It does the complete boot sequence normal for starting from a power
off state.  I can get it to actually turn off by holding the power switch
down for 5 seconds.  But that's not a proper, healthy shutdown.

Does anybody here have any suggestions.

There is a setting for automatically restarting on error. In XP it is on
the advanced tab in the System control panel; I would look for it there
in Vista also as a start.  There is some kind of error on shutdown that
is causing the computer to restart.  You will need to access Event
Viewer logs to determine the source unless when you kill the auto
restart, you can view an error dialog.
